Dawn and I had a great time dancing to three live swing bands at the Dance Flurry this past weekend. We love seeing our swing dance friends from around the Northeast here in our home town.
If you are interested in a dance weekend full of new surprises and experiences you must attend the Dance Flurry.
It’s live music all weekend even during the hundreds of dance lessons. Dancers love it, musicians love it and it keep the traditions of many historical dances alive for new generations to enjoy!

Dancing until the end of time
Social partner dancing has a unique ability to bring us to the moment. Neither person knows what is coming next, there is no dance choreography. The music moves our bodies and spirits in unique ways in every moment. The past and future are not part of the equation.
Music takes over our senses of hearing and feeling. Dancing takes over our sense of touch and creativity. There are no more bodily resources available to consider the past or the future. Every moment is a new moment, a new movement and a new connection. It is as if time does not exist.
If you want to know more about the Power of NOW, and living in the moment, check out Eckhart Tolle’s best selling books on the topic. If you want to experience it easily and quickly for yourself, check out my book and DVD here on Want Romance? Learn to Dance!
Why ballroom dancing makes us happy
Motion and emotion are connected in our bodies, brains and feelings. Dancing is a perfect way to harmonize all three aspects of our being. Dance motion releases stuck emotion and creates the opportunity for new emotion.
For instance, when you frown (motion) you feel the emotion of sadness. When the muscles in your lips are in a smile you feel happiness.
When your shoulders are hunched forward or your eyes are looking down (motion) you are sad. When you open your chest and look up you are happy.
Dancing is a great way to training your body to be in happy positions.
Music strongly influences our emotions and therefore our motions. Music moves us both emotionally and motionally (not sure if that is a word but I like it better than physically in this instance).
I am not saying you always have to be happy. I am saying if you want to be happier try dancing.
Dance – A poem about the best experience on earth
I woke up this morning feeling very grateful about my life and the opportunity to share with you.
As I listened to Pandora a song called Don’t miss your life by Phil Vassar came on. It was so perfect for where I am in life. Today is day 4 of focusing on my life’s purpose and living the life I want to live.
Telling stories about social partner dancing. My goal is to help you get over any hurdles you may have at experiencing the wonderful and fulfilling moments that are possible through dancing with another person. Here is a short poem I wrote about my dance experience. Enjoy.
Dance
We join together to create
Stillness and movement, it feels great!
Each moment is brand new
Something special between me and you
The past and future are not here now
We meet this moment right here, somehow
The present is pure joy and love
Flowing from within not from above
Dance is harmony, for you and me
This is how we’re meant to be.
Last night I watched So you think you can dance and the dancing was amazing. Awesome accomplishments of musical interpretation with the human body, mind and spirit. I did not feel however a deep connection between the dancers.
There is definitely something unique about being face to face with another person and holding them in your arms for 3 minutes. I think our culture feels that too. At least among the people that I know, 200 or so locally and 800 or so on Facebook, not many are talking about So you think you can dance the way that they got excited about Dancing with the stars.
We’ll talk more about the unique experiences of social PARTNER dancing as we blog on!
